A: Per the federal government CDC - Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in marijuana. CBD is not impairing, meaning it does not cause a “high.” CBD can be derived from hemp or from non-hemp plants. Hemp is defined as any part of the cannabis sativa plant with no more than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the mind-altering substance in marijuana.
A: After the hemp is harvested the CBD must be extracted from the plant material. A common way of extracting CBD is CO2 extraction where material is placed in a chamber filled with CO2 under high pressure creating liquid CO2 which absorbs the hemp oil and flavor including CBD. This extraction process is typically done in a cleanroom.
A: CBD products are subject to regulation by the FDA. This means complying with FDA GMP requirements including cleanrooms.
A: Per USDA, hydroponics is the method of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil. These marijuana hydroponics farms are often placed in cleanrooms.
A: Marijuana growth facilities are often placed in cleanrooms to prevent fungus growth and cross contamination of different breeds of marijuana. Some states like Oregon, Massachusetts, Nevada and Colorado ban the use of pesticides in medical marijuana and require testing to prove compliance. Cleanrooms aid in avoiding pesticide exposure.
