During the 2020 Covid-19 crisis, American Cleanroom Systems had to build cleanrooms extremely fast for mask manufacturing. Leveraging our 40 years of cleanroom design-build expertise, we created a special low-cost design that could be manufactured, shipped, and installed in under 4 weeks.
Mask manufacturing cleanrooms need to be clean environments to ensure the sterility of the manufactured masks. Our special design included:
- HEPA filtration
- Easily cleanable modular cleanroom walls
- Cleanroom doors
- Modular gown room (air lock)
- Modular low wall air returns
- Cleanroom lighting
- Magnehelic gauges to measure room pressure
The ability to integrate existing air conditioning into the new mask manufacturing cleanroom was a key factor in being able to manufacture, deliver and install the new cleanroom in only 3 weeks. The American Cleanroom Systems design allows the customer to directly connect their cool AC supply air to the HEPA fan filter units and the hot return air to the return air walls to form a recirculating cleanroom. This was particularly important due to the heat load of the mask manufacturing machines and the substantial number of assembly personnel in the cleanrooms who were wearing gloves, masks, cleanroom jackets, cleanroom booties and hair nets.
The customers were able to install either epoxy or industrial VCT tile to create cleanroom compatible flooring.
Magnehelic gauges were installed to allow the customer to monitor cleanroom air pressure and verify that the HEPA filtration and AC systems were running per design.
