The National Sanitation Foundation Institute is an organization that certifies food equipment that is designed and built in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food safety and environmental health standards. Many beverages and food manufacturer conform to NSF standards.

Cleanrooms are most common for beverage bottle filling operations but also for some food products. Since the bottles are often filled and sealed at elevated temperatures in moist steam filled environments, preventing contamination is very important.
